How can we have a relationship with God?
- Firstly, I should acknowledge that God loves me. God is the one who created all things. He desires to have fellowship with His creation.
- John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
- Secondly, I should agree that all men are sinners. I know that all of us have done things that are against what God tells us in the Bible.
- Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
- Thirdly, I should anticipate that Sin is a debt that requires payment. I know that I am unable to do anything to remove my sin or pay my debt.
- Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- Fourthly, I should accept that Christ paid for our sins. I know that Christ came to Earth, lived a perfect life, and died on the cross for my sin. Christ though buried, He rose again the third day to give me new life.
- Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
- Finally, I should pray and ask Christ to be my Saviour. All I must do to accept this free gift is to pray. The prayer will not save me but I know that my belief in His finished work will save me.
- Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
